Application of Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes:

1. Functionalized nanotubes may have mechanical, optical or electrical properties.
2. Covalent functionalization is based on the formation of covalent bonds between the functional entity and the carbon skeleton of the nanotube. It can also be divided into direct covalent sidewall functionalization and indirect covalent functionalization with carboxyl groups on the CNT surface.
3. Indirect covalent functionalization takes advantage of the chemical conversion of the carboxyl groups at the open ends and the carboxyl groups on the sidewalls. These carboxyl groups may already exist on the growing carbon nanotubes, or they may be further generated during the oxidation purification process.
4. In order to increase the reactivity of the CNT, it is usually necessary to convert the carboxylic acid group into an acid chloride, and then perform an esterification or amidation reaction.
5. The functionalization in the tube in the form of a covalent chemical bond has not been proven, but a chemical reaction occurred that caused the product to be not observed outside the tube.
