The first MXene (Ti3C2Tx) was discovered in 2011 and over 30 different types of MXenes have been synthesized.. MXenes are at the forefront of research due to their metal conductivity, tunable surface chemical properties, and ability to insert other metal ions. One of the main factors contributing to the rapid development of MXene material research is its conductivity, which is the highest among all synthesized 2D materials, and its conductivity is more than ten times that of reduced graphene oxide films. In addition, its hydrophilic properties and good dispersion stability have expanded the application of MXenes in electromagnetic shielding, optoelectronics, sensing, thermal heaters, thermoelectric technology, high dielectric materials, frictional effects, battery and supercapacitor electrode materials. MXenes can be controlled through green and safe methods. The electrochemical performance of pure MXenes is closely related to their surface chemistry (functional groups, atomic defects, heteroatom doping) and microstructure (layer thickness, interlayer spacing, and pore size). Therefore, the synthesis with precise number of layers, expanded interlayer spacing, controllable surface functional groups, and regular atomic defects is crucial for optimizing its electrochemical performance.
