Titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2) is a new type of ternary layered ceramic material that combines metal and ceramic properties. It has excellent properties of ceramics, high yield strength, high melting point, high thermal stability and high temperature strength, as well as good oxidation resistance, thermal shock resistance, and corrosion resistance. At the same time, it also has the properties of metal, with high thermal conductivity and conductivity at room temperature. It can be machined with high-speed steel tools like metal, and has good plasticity at high temperatures, lower friction coefficient and better self-lubricating performance than graphite.
MAX phase products, especially titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2), have a series of characteristics such as high Damage tolerance, good mechanical and thermal properties, which make it possible to apply it to the fourth generation nuclear reactor as the cladding material of nuclear fuel in gas cooled fast reactor.
